Angela’s Story

Site created on September 30, 2018

Welcome to our families CaringBridge website. We will be using it to keep family and friends updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. I myself want to thank you all in advance for visiting. I was diagnosed with breast cancer on September 4th and we have been serching for several different opinions and care teams all across the State since. We now have decided to continue my care with Virginia Piper Breast Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital & Allina Medical Centers including Mercy Medical Center and Cambridge Medical Center to stay close to home so our family can be by my side as much as they can. Tomorrow October 1st 2018 we will find out what stage cancer it is from the sugar/dye tests from this past Friday and we met with our Surgeon this past Friday morning before those tests. So when we have more to update we will continue with my story here. I love you all and thanks for being here with me everyone.

Journal entry by Angela Folstrom

I just wanted to let everyone know that there are a few more steps and surgeries left to complete my reconstruction.

Last night after taking the ace bandage, gauze and tape off leaving the steri-strips in place reveling that my right side had more scaring and different surgery markings than we had previously thought it would from where we marked before surgery. I sat at the end of my bed and cried for a while when I realized why my right side and arm had been hurting more.

Tony had told me that Dr. Shafer had told him there was a lot more scaring and scar tissue due to the cancer on my right side and the removal of the lymph node under my arm. But I wasn't prepared to see another new scar and new set backs I guess. There is a whole new scar and stiches plus skin changes I wasn't prepared for. So I am now hopeful when I have my 2 week check up Dr. Shafer can give me reassurance that this is not going to be how it is.

As of last night and this morning I am a little concerned, saddened, still sore and I know I can email and use my patient portal but right now I  think I just need to do some inner healing.

Having my CaringBridge site is truly helpful to be able to vent this. It's where people can understand by reading, sending love and support, it gives me a place to be able to put out the words I need to speak about without putting it out to the whole world, just to those who want to be part of my journey.

Thanks so much for the love, prayers, healing vibes and support each and everyone of you have given to me it truly means the world to me.

Love,
Angela
