Newest Update

Journal entry by Heather Provo

It has been quite some time since Andy's Caring Bridge has been updated, so here is the latest news.
Andy had his labs drawn yesterday. His GFR is now 10 and his creatnine is 6. His Hemoglobin is low- just above 9.  Andy is more frequently tired, not sleeping well, and has low energy as his kidney continues to decline.
While we were hopeful a donor would be found and he would be able to avoid dialysis, this is not the case. We will be meeting with a surgeon later this month to discuss Peritoneal Dialysis and the catheter surgery.  He would prefer this type of dialysis over hemodialysis because it offers more lifestyle flexibility and independence, a less restricted diet, and allows longer lasting residual kidney function.
Andy remains active on the donor waiting list which is approximately 6 years. We remain hopeful for a live donor whether it is direct, non-direct, or through paired exchange. (See attached). We are given very little information from the transplant center regarding any possible donors that may have come forward thus far due to confidentiality. We appreciate those who have called the transplant center to inquire and/or udergone any testing.
We hope everyone is remaining safe and well during the Covid-19 pandemic. As always we appreciate everyone's support and well wishes.❤
