Newest Update

Journal entry by Blake Woolsey

Dementia. Really there are no words that can accurately depict this awful disease. As many of you know (or may not know), Andy has dementia -- at 52-years-old. While no one deserves dementia -- no one . . .  to be so young, is just not fair.  We wanted to provide you with an update on Andy because there are things he needs where we can all pitch-in and help, but above all, he needs prayers.

In mid-January, the Plemmons left their home on Par Court in Fayetteville. At that point, Vanessa took Andy into her home until a suitable environment was found for Andy. After many assessments, it was determined Andy could not go into assisted living as we had all wished. He needs round-the-clock care which means a nursing home is best. The State of Arkansas found him a great location in Holiday Island called Prestige Nursing Home. It is owned by Dennington and Allison Moss. They are Fayetteville residents. I was so happy to see they were the owners when Vanessa shared the location with me. They are good people.

We all know Andy. He loves people, and thank goodness, through his process, he has remained a fun-loving, joyful soul. He longs to connect with his friends, so please do not feel strange about going to visit. During your conversation, he may repeat a bit of the conversation or tell a story more than once, but I assure you he will love seeing you, and you will feel like you are talking to the Andy you've always known.

Kudos to Vanessa and her son, Coleman, for getting him settled in his new home. While the nursing home provides three meals a day and three snacks, laundry, a mini-refrigerator, housekeeping services and medication monitoring, there are things they do not provide:  razors, personal hygiene, shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. If you feel so inclined, reach out to Vanessa or me, and we'll make sure he receives these items from you . . . or even some special treat you think he may enjoy. Andy's favorite apple is a Pink Lady Apple and he also loves homemade sweet tea. He already has Razorback bedding, so you know he's happy with that!

The address is of the nursing home is:  Prestige Nursing Home, 89 Hillside Drive, Holiday Island,  AR, 72631, and the phone number is 479-253-6553.

We'll use this site to keep you updated on his situation. It is important to note that Andy is considered a ward of the State, so keeping his friends updated on his health and happiness is important.  I guess it wouldn't be appropriate for me to end a message about Andy --even with all of the frenzy of the COVID-19 --- without saying . . . Go Hogs! Go Cubs!
