Journal entry by Andrew Weiner —
So on May 17th, I started to experience some BPH symptoms as well as a lot of discomfort when voiding. I also spiked a fever as high as 103. Since I never get fevers, I decided to go to the hospital. My official first diagnosis was Hemogenic Cystitis and Prostatitis. Then came the barrage of testing; blood work, ultrasounds and scans oh my! Well the first ultra sound did in fact confirm BPH swelling of the prostate. IV antibiotics continued and my fever went down. Blood work was all normal with the exception of an elevated wbc of 18.
However, the ultra-sound picked up an anomaly around the lower quadrant of the left kidney. A CAT scan confirmed that. Then the contrast scan really brought it out.
Needless to say, the diagnosis was handed down; Renal Cell Carcinoma. I guess i am luck though. One measurement has it as stage 1 and another shows it as pre-stage 1. Surgery to remove the tumor will be on June 8th. It is estimated that I will be able to retain 90+% of the kidney.
So, off we go.
