Andrew’s Story

Site created on April 9, 2022

Andrew fell in his home and hit his head on Monday, April 4th, due to what doctors think may have been a seizure.  He was taken to Mercy Hospital where doctors found bleeding in his brain and admitted him into the ICU where he underwent surgery. Since surgery, Andrew has been fighting hard to recover with some steps forward and some steps back. Please see below for more updates on his progress.

Andrew is a cherished father, husband, brother, son, coworker, and member of his community.  He's the "would give the shirt off his back to you" kinda guy, and we're all in his corner as he embarks on his long road to recovery ahead.

Here is Andrew's Go Fund Me if anyone would like to contribute to his medical expenses: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-cover-andrews-medical-expenses?utm_source=customer

Journal entry by Kristine O'Keefe

I apologize for not posting yesterday. I was recovering from the best wedding ever! My sweet godson, Zach married his beautiful high school sweetheart, Maddy. It was the perfect wedding for a perfect couple! We were missing Andy but sent so many pictures I’m sure he felt as if he were there! 😝
He is up and walking with the help of OT. The doctors have decided to wait on the prosthetic surgery until he is completely clear of any infection so history doesn’t repeat itself. In the meantime, he has to wear a sweet helmet when he is up and moving. He is not excited about it but the kids are preparing their stickers and sharpies to decorate it when he gets home. He will have to continue antibiotics at home with his own IV care. It should be interesting. His biggest pain is still recovering from the head surgery. They are working to find the right medication and dose. They removed the tube that served as a drain from the back of his head and his gauze is gone. His same incision was used so his sideways horseshoe tattoo is back. His hair is also amazing! It’s shaved on one side and fully grown on the other.  I’m sure he will be a trendsetter as always! Hopefully tomorrow we will get a clearer picture of when he can come home. Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. It gives us the motivation to tackle round 2!
