Newest Update

Journal entry by Amie Cottrell

Hi. Just wanted to give an update. My white cell count was very low last week so I had three shots -one a day for 3 days. I was off this past week from chemo on Wednesday but I needed bloodwork for my liver biopsy and needed my two chemo injections I get monthly so I had that done Friday July 1st.

Friday night my oncologist contacted me that my hemoglobin and platelets were seriously low and I had to come in over the weekend for a blood transfusion or couldn’t do the liver biopsy set for Tuesday July 5th. I am here at the hospital today Sunday July 3rd for the transfusions but also with shortness of breath and swollen liver area. They are monitoring my heart and sending me for a CT scan and as soon as the 100 other people in front of me go I’ll have a room for the transfusions.

Going forward: I have a liver biopsy Tuesday July 5th(This is to make sure the cancer bio markers haven’t changed in the past year. This will ensure if I do have another chemo I’ll be placed on one that can help the most.), double dose chemo July 6th, chemo July 13th, Pet scan July 14, appointment with my Sloan oncologist July 18th to discuss results, and an appointment with my local oncologist July 20th to go over the pet scan CD and decide my next steps since both oncologists will have had time to discuss results together.

As of right now I’m taking it one day at a time. I’ve been sleeping a lot and very tired but trying to spend time with the kids when I can. Nicholas recently graduated 6th grade this year (added a picture) and was one of about 10 students who earned the Superintendent’s award! Mikey also earned the Principal’s award this year. The girls also did very well. So proud of them all. I always love them home for summer break but this has been the most difficult summer thus far. I feel a bit guilty being sick and lacking energy to do all we used to but making the best of it. Again thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
