Baby Amelia is a beautiful 9 month old little girl who was admitted to the hospital late Wednesday February 20th due to the discovery of a large foreign mass found on her brain during a CT Scan. Amelia had an emergency drain put in early Thursday morning to relieve pressure off her brain. Shortly after she was taken to surgery after it was discovered during imaging that the mass had evolved and started causing further complications and damage. After over 5 hours of open brain surgery Amelia was in a hospital bed after the successful removal of the large mass. Over the course of the next few days Amelia faced agonizing complications and side effects from both the large tumor, massive swelling and the trauma of the surgery itself. Amelia has gone home to Heaven on Thursday the 28th of February. Our family greatly appreciates the support everyone has given, nothing is needed at this time but if you feel you would like to help we again greatly appreciate it. Hey everyone, I started a fundraising campaign for Help support the Torres family.. Please tap to donate- gf.me/u/q3zmqm
We just wanted to take the time to update everyone on the latest developement in Amelia’s care and journey home to the Lord. On Monday March 11th we reconvened with the doctors who were involved in Baby Amelia’s care in order to discuss the pathology results of the tumor that was removed from her brain. It was established that the tumor was of a hyper aggressive, malignant type. The cancer that was responsible for the tumor was an extremely rare type that was first reported in the year 2000 and since then has had under 50 reported cases. The cancer also possessed hybrid characteristics of other rare cancers that also were extremely aggressive which is what caused it to be so damaging to her. Due to the hyper aggressive nature of the cancer the doctors unanimously agreed that the tumor was most likely only present for a short time so she was not living in pain. This type of cancer along with the other characteristics that were present has an almost certain lethality rate even without taking into account her age.
We would like to thank everyone for there love and support through this entire ordeal. The support was and still is overwhelming to us. We thank God everyday for the blessing of our baby and for the time we were able to have and love her. We have complete confidence and find solace in the fact that Amelia is home with Jesus and we will see her again one day.
