Newest Update

Journal entry by Amber Stratton

It’s been a while since my last update and so much has changed that I wanted to share. I was able to spend the Summer really enjoying my time with friends and family from a girl’s trip to Austin, a mother daughter trip along the Northeast coast, gardening with my boys, a twin’s game with friends, and so many other fun adventures. I’ve truly learned to appreciate my time here on earth and I’m thankful for the energy I’ve had to experience it. What a gift!

In July I had my second surgery and I’ve healed well. I still don’t have much movement with my arm, but physical therapy has been helping work with me on this. I’ll have my final surgery early next year sometime and I’m excited to be almost done with surgeries! Two down and just one to go! As much as surgery is a process to recover from, I’m grateful I’ve had these options available to me.

I continue to tackle chemo and will be more than halfway done after tomorrow’s infusion! I’m on a chemotherapy they’ve used for stage IV breast cancer, but it was recently approved for people like myself who had residual disease remaining during surgery. I’m still considered high risk stage III, but Mayo can’t currently find ANY cancer in my body! I’m completely humbled and amazed that I’ve been responding so well to treatment. Praise Jesus! Because I started with so much cancer, I’m higher risk for reoccurrence so will continue this chemotherapy until January and then will likely go on a chemotherapy pill. I don’t mind the long treatment plan though because I know I’m lucky there are so many treatments available to me. Mayo continues to do everything to keep me healthy and fight this vicious disease. They have given me the gift of time and I’m entirely grateful for this.

My Faith continues to guide me in everything I do. I’m not ashamed of my heavenly Father and will continue to praise Him all my days here on earth. I know I couldn’t have endured these last 10 months without Him guiding me. I’m not sure what this next chapter has in store but I’m not going to take it for granted. I was able to go back to work August 16th and it’s brought me such joy being able to work again. I can’t wait to celebrate Birthday’s this Fall and the Holidays with the boys. I have so much to look forward to and I can’t wait! I’ll be finishing chemo slightly after my 36th Birthday and that seems like the absolute BEST gift after being diagnosed at 34. This journey has seemed long at times but fast as well. I couldn’t have gotten through it without all the love and support so THANK YOU all I’m so grateful for everything. Love you!
