Newest Update

Journal entry by Amber Andrews

Todays update:

Been in the hospital since Sunday the 3rd, I had an abscess that I thought was a hernia, but it ruptured. They also thought I was septic so until today I got all antibiotics that were in Indiana. Strep A in my in abscess and the docs think somehow it seeded on the mesh and could come back. So that means I will have to take an antibiotic for the rest of my life. No biggie, it can be solved.
Chemo has to be pushed back a week because of the infection and because I’m in-patient. I should go home tomorrow, the 6th. Even the Hospitalist says so.
I believe the chemo is doing its job. For the past couple of weeks I have been able to EAT! FOOD IN MY MOUTH! I am so excited! I think that first chemo where I vomited for days and couldn’t get out of bed, I think that I was sicking up the tumor. i can’t eat much, there is some gastroparisis still because my stomach hasn’t worked in a long time as a stomach. I am still taking it as a positive!

Sad news, my dad died. I still haven’t big cried, I think I’m broken. I try to talk to mom every day, we’ve made some tentative plans for when I get out. I think she is doing the best she can right now in trying to figure out life without him. My heart breaks for her.

Good news is Hannah might have a wedding date! I think it’s too soon and we talked about why she picked the date. She felt pressured. If you talk with her, please don’t pressure her or try to make her feel bad for not having a date set. I don’t think this is now as serious as we originally thought. I have time and I want her to enjoy her time with Chris and then get married when they are ready not because of cancer. I would hate that. Her wedding date would always have cancer hiding around the corner and I don’t want that for them, it should be about celebrating their love. ❤️  If they do decide to move forward with the beginning of April because that’s what they want, her dad and I will be there with bells on and supporting her as she wants!

Good news, I am having a tea party the 14th of April and am making some of the guest gifts, I’m so excited to have something other than doctors appointments on my calendar!

Good news, mango pineapple refresher from starbies has been the best tasting thing since I started chemo! Anything with pineapple has been delicious! Will was bringing me a drink every now and then, the. He just brought the base home and I make the lemonade part and mix! Yum!

Hospital food sucks except for breakfast. Can’t wait to get back home.
