Journal entry by Amanda Fortin

Hi Everyone!
Sorry it has been a while since we have posted anything. As you know, the first round of treatment did not get rid of all of the cancer. She went back in to the hospital April 20th. Her treatment plan was different than the first time. The treatment was 5 days long instead of 7, and she was only hooked up to the IV for 2 hours a day instead of 24. This hospital stay was very boring in comparison to the last one. She had a fever for 1 day around 15 days in and that was it! Her ANC went from 88 on 5/10 to over 500 just 3 days later, and we found out the day before Mother's Day that she was going home the day after Mother's Day! We spent the day with a lot of family at the hospital on Mother's Day, which meant the world to her. There were so many of us, we took up most of the court yard just outside. The next day she came home and her ANC was over 1,000.

Tuesday, May 15th we went in for a third bone marrow biopsy. They were able to get enough of a sample, although it was not an easy process. We were told at that appointment that it would be 7-10 days for results, so when the doctor called later Friday afternoon it was a surprise to us all! He gave us the amazing news that she is in remission! The second round worked. Words cannot describe the emotions that we are all feeling.

She will start outpatient treatment this week on Tuesday or Wednesday. She is supposed to hear from the doctor tomorrow. That will entail 3 of the next 5 days going to the hospital for 12 hours of infusion treatment. She has an appointment tomorrow at OHSU to further explore a Bone Marrow Transplant and what that would look like.

She is so grateful for all of the love, well wishes, prayers, visits, texts, cards, emails, and happy thoughts from all of her friends and family. Alta is one loved lady, and you are all doing an amazing job of proving that to her.

Thank you all for all of the love and support!
