Al’s Story

Site created on May 21, 2018

Al was diagnosed with esophageal cancer about a month ago, and two weeks later we learned he also has colon cancer.  On Thursday May 17, 2018 Al underwent colectomy surgery.  He is recovering with steady progress at Baystate (Franklin Medical) and we hope he will be discharged tomorrow.  After a few weeks of recovering at home the plan is to begin a regime of radiation and chemo to address the esophaageal cancer.    Thank you for visiting.  Messages are welcome and updates will be periodically provided.

May 22:  Al is not being released today.  Yesterday, he began a liquid diet after eating only ice chips for nearly a week.  If he does well with soft foods then he can go home tomorrow.
