Al’s Story

Site created on December 26, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. Today Al went into Trellis residential care and we will be sharing information about his journey and his condition on this site. Al has fought a valiant battle against his Parkinson's Disease, attending daily cycle classes at the Robinhood Family YMCA and walking daily until 2 months ago, just past his 80th birthday, when his cycle buddies gave him the birthday celebration beyond his dreams. His condition has declined rapidly since then and he is no longer able to stand, walk or move by himself. Family and caregivers have been taking care of Al for the past 2 months and the Trellis team is wonderful and ready to step in now. Al would love your stopping by his room at Trellis--room 20--and chatting--he doesn't speak much but he listens and enjoys. Thanks for supporting the family on this journey.

Journal entry by Robyn Mixon

I have not been keeping up Caringbridge as I should and I do apologize. I have been doing most of the posting on Facebook and the Wachovia retiree site and am so sorry to delay. Al's funeral is today at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 2 pm. He passed on January 12 from end-stage Parkinson's Plus and went peacefully.  We are thankful for his release.
