Newest Update

Journal entry by Natalie Miele

Hi, everyone -

Thank you again for all those attending this Friday, September 18, 2020 at 11 am for the service for my father, and for those who are not able to attend, I know you have sent much love and well wishes, and we so appreciate everyone. A few logistical items to update everyone on, as this is a federal site and there are specific procedures to follow. This is a lot of information, but I promise each piece is valuable; please read each item and I do have one question as well.

For the service:
  • REMINDER: A professional photographer and videographer will be documenting the entire service and ceremony. Cell phones are not permitted to be on, or in use, at these times. (When services conclude, you may choose to turn your phone on and take pictures at that time.) There will not be any formal portraits taken by the photographer; they are there to capture candid moments only; these will be available online. I will send a link to those later.
  • Please arrive no later than 10:00 a.m. Those with a federal or military ID should not have an issue entering Arlington, however civilians may need to register, and the guard can direct you appropriately. Please bring a valid photo identification (Driver's License, passport, etc.) for EACH adult in the vehicle.
  • Please let the guard know that you are attending the funeral of Allan C. Stover
    • The address to the Hatfield Gate is 29 Carpenter Rd. Ft. Myer Va 22211
    • Once you have entered Ft. Myer, you will then go to the Old Post Chapel at 204 Lee Ave, Fort Myer, VA 22211 for the service.
  • The service at the historic Old Post Chapel will be approximately 15 minutes.
  • When the service concludes, we will then return to our vehicles to follow the chaplain for the final procession to the columbarium.
  • Upon exiting our vehicles, there will be an initial service at a tented area.
  • We will then proceed to the niche at the columbarium, where Allan C. Stover will be permanently placed into his final resting place.
A Reception Following the Service?
  • Please let me know if you would be interested to attend an informal, "no host" luncheon. Because of Covid, we are not able to host a formal reception. I will send more details for a location, if enough individuals would like to attend.
Do Not Forget:
  • There will be military honors rendered and a bugler. If you have sensitive ears, or have children who will not like the loud sounds, please make sure to bring ear plugs, or any other form of ear protection.
  • At this time, the weather is calling for 60% rain; please prepare appropriately.
  • Again, cell phones are not permitted during all aspects of the service and must be turned off. The photographer is only there to document the ceremony and will not be granting any special requests.
  • You must wear a mask within the chapel service and you may have to wear a mask during the service outside as well.
Again, thank you. This is a lot of information. Please let me know if you have any questions.

With much love,
Natalie and Grace
