Allana’s Story

Site created on June 29, 2013

Allana on May 22, 2013 was diagnosed with a brain tumor that consumed over 1/4 of her brain. She was experiencing paralysis on her left side, trouble walking, and loss of motor skills caused by the the tumor and build up of spinal fluid. At Riley hospital she first had a drain inserted to relieve the pressure from the spinal fluid build up which stayed in until after the second brain surgery to remove the last of the tumor. Allana's body couldn't absorb the spinal fluid so a permanent internal shunt had to be inserted that drains into her stomach. We sought a second opinion and St Jude in Memphis is where we have chosen to have treatment. She has a very rare and aggressive type of cancer. In the 3 weeks from the last brain surgery it has already started to grow back but we are praising God that it was not in her spine or spinal fluid!

Journal entry by Beth Law

Allana was able to have her MRI without being sedated!!! Just another reason why we LOVE St Jude so much, all of the nurses made her a poster for being so brave 😊

It was a good day all around because her scans were clear and she spent her time between appointments sewing in a new activity area. Dennis and Brittany found the new napping pods they have for adults:)

Thanks to everyone for your prayers!
