Alicia’s Story

Site created on February 12, 2022

Alicia had a sudden brain bleed on Sunday, February 6th. She was taken by ambulance to Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, MN and then airlifted to Abbott Northwestern hospital in the Twin Cities. She spent 8 days in ICU and then transferred to the Neurology department of the hospital. On March 1st she graduated to transitional care at The Emeralds in Grand Rapids, MN.
We are pleased with her progress! We will keep you current on how she's doing in the journal entries below.

At this time, we ask those that wish to visit to please hold off while Alicia transitions into her new space and gets comfortable with her surroundings as she begins to spend more time working with rehab specialists. We would also like to hold space for family that hasn't been able to be with her due to visitor restrictions and give priority to some that need travel accommodations.
If you're interested in visiting when we are ready, please let Doug know as we wish to start with an organized schedule as to not overwhelm her/us.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Douglas Burgers

Good morning. Thought i would post an update today. I got dismissed from the Emeralds on April 27. We are staying at Loren,s home on Woman Lake.  I started home therapy and graduated from it already. Now I’ve started outpatient therapy. Physical therapist is very pleased with the strength in my leg and need to focus on balance. Occupational therapist will evaluate my arm and hand tomorrow. My arm is making progress, need to fine tune the motor skills. All in all I’m very great full for the progress to date and all the prayers and support we’ve had the last 4 months.
