Journal entry by Joclyn Kilpatrick

Hello Everyone,

It is with the heaviest heart to inform all of you that after 7 months of fighting, Alex lost his battle to ALM yesterday on May, 23rd 2021. He slipped away peacefully with Toni, Ryan and Kevin by his side.

When Alex returned to the hospital in March to follow through with the bone marrow transplant we were all incredibly optimistic. We all thought the hardest part was over and unfortunately, we were wrong. Alex suffered from infections, fluid in his lungs, and for the last 3 weeks he was attached to a breathing tube. He fought so hard and he used every ounce of strength he had while taking all of us on the rollercoaster ride with him. We thought he was going to pass weeks ago and then he came back making full strides. Yesterday, his body just couldn’t take any more.

We are all grieving over a husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and a person who had the biggest heart, an infectious smile and an incredibly loving presence. When someone we love this much passes, we of course miss the person but we also miss their presence and everything they bring to our life experience. Right now it feels like a major piece to our puzzle and our heart is missing.

Please keep the Kilpatrick family in your heart and prayers as we all navigate through this process of grief. We will be spending time over the next few days planning Alex’s celebration of life and will inform you all when we have the day set.

Thank you for your loving support throughout this process and allow yourself to grieve the loss of Alex also. Alex will be forever missed but his legacy will live on in so many ways.

Lots of love,

The Kilpatrick's
