Alec’s Story

Site created on November 3, 2017

Alec was born with hypo plastic left heart syndrome. He has fought every day to be here and to live life to the fullest. This week we have been going through our second round of testing at the Rochester Mayo Clinic and from the sounds of it he will be approved for a heart/liver transplant. He is extremely tired today. Yesterday he had a heart cath that took all day and had a toll on him. We are both anxious to get today’s appointments over with so we can head home for a couple days before we have to be back here next week for more tests and a procedure. Will keep everyone updated as things are decided.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Debra Lembecker

It has been a year since I have updated. It’s hard to believe that it was two years ago today that we got the call that changed Alec’s life. Two years ago I was sitting in a waiting room at the Mayo Clinic waiting for news. It’s been an adventure with good and bad. Right now things are good. It is two years post transplant and one year cancer free. During COVID-19 I took some time off to try to be more cautious of bringing anything home to Alec. When I had to go back to work we  decided to get Alec an apartment in Rochester for awhile to keep him safe and hopefully free from me possibly bringing it home or getting it and exposing him. During that time Alec wrote a book about his life with a heart defect. It became available for order today on lulu.com I’ve been reading me and it has made me laugh and cry. He has a way with words. Alec and I are excited to finally be able to use our Gophers football season tickets this year and hopefully do some traveling. He is going to try to save money to visit his friend in Germany in January 2022. Besides writing his book he has still been making highlight videos for sports players and is going to make a documentary with some friends. This week is full of appointments and tests at the Mayo Clinic. Alec also has communicated with the family of his donor and over the weekend while at the cemetery met his donors family and some friends.  Here’s hoping that 2021 is a great year!!
