Alec josiah’s Story

Site created on December 19, 2018

Alec Josiah Rubio diagnosed with adrenoleukodistrophy on November 15,2018 after 5 months of searching for answers on his lazy eye, soon turning into behavior change with adhd like symptoms, leading to loss of peripheral vision and inability to read or write in first grade when he was top of class in kindergarten.

We’re currently going through with bone marrow transplant steps at city of hope and are now admitted with a cord blood infusion date of January 15,2019.

Below is the gofund me for Alec’s medical and post transplant expenses. Thank you.

Journal entry by Tereza Quesada

In two days Alec went through -

MRI ✅
Lumbar puncture ✅
And neuro exam. ✅
Endoscopy ✅
Colonoscopy ✅

MRI, has no changes and if anything looks less white doctor says. Very unheard of for it to look “less white” but I’ll accept that comment. One said it’s the same, so 🤷🏻‍♀️ both good for now.
The MRI was actually done because Alec isn’t very responsive, I feel he’s just very weak and is trying to understand what’s going on.

Lumbar puncture was done to see if there’s an infection in the spinal fluid that could be causing him to act different, those results will be in within a week.

The neurologist came and asked Alec to stick his tongue out and We’re both agreeing he was trying. He seems so weak, but he tries. His legs are so skinny even with the exercise we do for him.

No concerns with endoscopy.
From the colonoscopy GVHD is mild in the lower intestine, so nothing too concerning but they’re putting the feeding tube down into his intestine tomorrow since his stomach isn’t absorbing anything.

Still lowering sedation and narcotic daily, going smooth at this point. He has some sinusitis but he’s on antibiotics to help this.

Alec’s resting now after two busy days, occasionally smiling in his sleep.
