Journal entry by Jan (McKinley) Jeffries —
Hello friends and family. Many of you are up to date on AJ’s progress but for those who aren’t: AJ finished chemo the week before last and finished radiation this week. We are SO happy that he got through it without having to pause treatment and without having to get a feeding tube. It was a rough ride but much better than we expected and much better than what most people endure with this. There is no way to know what the experience would have been like without consistent use of the red light therapy but he did not develop any sores in his mouth. When an area looked red - or he felt a tingling somewhere in his mouth - I’d use the red light on it twice a day and it would clear up. One use would immediately clear any discomfort. I also used it proactively on a daily basis right before he’d leave for treatment. Chemo made him feel out of sorts, tired, and with general malaise, but no nausea. The medications used these days to mitigate side effects are so wonderful.
What’s next? In a month we go back up to UCSF to see both surgeons and the dental team. Hopefully AJ will have some lower teeth soon! Then he’s going to eat a big hamburger and order Gianni’s pizza! 😃😋.
Thanks again for the prayers, the love, the caring. We appreciate all of you!
