Aidyn’s Story

Site created on August 6, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Aidyn was born with a complex set of congenital heart defects. She had open heart surgery  at 5 days old and again at just under the one year mark. We were told she would need surgery again at age 3-5...but she decided to play a longer game! So here we are, at age 12, and it's time!

The surgery... on Wednesday, August 7th, Dr. Mike Mitchell and his team at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin- Milwaukee  will be performing Aidyn's 3rd open heart surgery. They will be replacing the valve conduit and probably cleaning up the Pulmonary Branch a bit. It's a pretty straightforward operation and fairly common...but still incredibly complicated. This is due in large part to the amount of scar tissue they will have to work through to get to the heart. Surgery will probably be between 5-7 in length.

See that smile? That is the I'M GOING HOME smile!

Yep...today we are heading home. Things are looking great. Her labs were great, her chest xray is clear and her echo and EKG looked really go. She is drinking and eating *just* enough to bust out of here and the rest of her body is functioning as it should. So off we go home to Wookie!

We are so very, very thankful for all of the love and support that you have given us through this adventure. Nothing humbles a person faster than extended stay at a Children's Hospital. You are gifted instantly with an infinite amount of empathy and perspective. I am so incredibly proud of Aidyn and all her courage and strength.
