Amy’s Story

Site created on December 12, 2018

Welcome to Amy's CaringBridge website. Amy has been battling infections for a couple years now. This year has been particularly difficult as Amy has spent 225 days of 2018 in the hospital. Recently she had a pocket infection on her pacemaker which required removal. During surgery there were complications with removing the old leads, so surgeons had to crack open her chest to fix it and place a new pacemaker. With this surgery, Amy can't use her arms for 12 weeks until the chest heals. As a paraplegic, this causes many complications since she uses a Wheelchair daily to be independent. This poses an even larger challenge then healing. In order for Amy to come home, she will need some more adaptive equipment to keep some form of independence. She will need a power chair to help her stay mobile and later a power assist as she heals to eventually transition back into her Manual wheelchair. Amy is hopeful that she will make a full recovery to return to do some of the things she loves. She hopes to get back to coaching Rolling Panthers, Youth Wheelchair Basketball team here in Iowa. Being an active board member for SportAbility of Iowa to help provide more adaptive sports opportunities in Iowa. We believe in the #AdaptOvercome motto of SportAbility and Rolling Panthers. Please consider helping us get the needed equipment to get her through recovery and help with expenses while Vincen, Amy's Fiancee is in the hospital helping care for her. We are using CaringBridge to keep family and friends updated with Amy's progress. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
