Ada Deer let me rent her home in Madison when I moved to take a position at UW-Madison. She was an energetic and kind woman who encouraged people she worked with to share their lives and experiences with one another. She told me once that problems are opportunities and that frame of mind made her seek solutions more than confrontations. When we were both retired, I saw her at Fellys Floral. I was buying seeds and she was buying flowers for her friends. She was happy to see I was wearing "Indian earrings". It was an observation that made us both laugh. I was fortunate that I got to know her as a colleague. Roberta Hill
