Newest Update

Journal entry by Abby Jackson

Just a brief update tonight and I will have more later.

We are home.

Gabe had his 3rd followup bronch on Friday morning. His grafts and reconstructed site look healthy and his surgeon gave her blessing to discharge. We celebrated Father's Day with a hike in our favorite spot and a giant charcuterie board (Gabe has been asking for this meal since he woke up - he takes his charcuterie nights very seriously).

We have a long road of some rehab and followup airway tests that will be ongoing in the next months. Gabe has some swallowing weakness and still cannot talk using his vocal cords, but, we are all together, at home.

I got to water my plant babies (with Gabe's help), sleep in a bed, eat home-cooked food, and hold my children tight (the four-legged furry one included) and there is nothing more I could want in life (other than like 3 weeks of a long nap).

We are grateful but still holding so many different emotions together - so please - do all the celebrating and dancing and happy tear crying sessions for us - it truly is a milestone worth rejoicing in.

Once we catch up a bit on some much needed family time, I will post more specifics and please let me know if you have any questions - I will do my best to answer and respond, but for now, I am going to go fall asleep listening to the silent sound of my baby breathing without a trach.

As always - so thankful for each of you. We have so many stories to share - and we will. Soon.
With all the love and gratitude our weary hearts can muster -
