Dearest friends,
Our Chicken, David -- brother, father, uncle, friend, lover -- has floated on down the river, staying in the current, last seen going round the bend of the river at 5:49 p.m. today.
He was always, and still is, the best lead boat in any trip.
Gratitude. Gratitude. For him.
and for all of you.
Love,
Annie, Chris, Ilona, Kristin, Mary,

It is now many days since our River Chicken "floated on down the river, staying in the current, last seen going round the bend of the river at 5:49", March 26, 2025. Mary, your words are equisite! .... as are all these beautiful comments from all of you, dear loving people! This is the first day since his passing that I could open Caring Bridge. My tears flow steadily. Thank you all.

Your Spirit lives on, Dear Chicken. You have touched so many on your journey through this life. You were pivotal in my entry into the world of rivers and community with your welcoming open heart. Your love and light has trickled down into the many cracks of humanity. Thank you!

Aloha Chicken! I think of you often with affection for all the years of kindness and fun. You were one of a kind, and and yes, you were the best lead boat.

Gratitude for you, Chicken. I was touched by your spirit, and deeply grateful for your love of my friend Annie. It is good to know that you floated on in peace, and surrounded by your loved ones. Sending love and support to all of you.

I love you Chicken. I'm heartened by Annie's message that you shot down your final rapid "at peace, and pain free." Chicken, you made me feel like the center of the universe whenever we were together -- and you inspired me in a million ways -- and I know that so many fellow Chicken-istas felt the same. You are a light upon the world and I will never forget our friendship. Your memory IS a blessing. Tonight, let's raise a glass of whiskey before dinner to our Chicken! Love Caleb

Chicken had - and still has - a remarkable group of devoted friends. Those friends - all of you - are a tribute to the specialness of Chicken. We'll all miss him. But his spirit will always be with us - especially on rivers. Chicken inspired and changed the lives of so many people and the world is a better place because of him. None of us can ask for a more meaningful legacy.

Chicken, We miss you and send you on your way with love and blessings just as you spread those in the world and to everyone around you. Be well wherever you are my friend!
