Mon Sep 02 2024: Scanxiety - 9/13
We haven't posted in far too long. We have been focused on the moment and enjoying a wonderful summer filled with travel, experiences, and love.
We decided to transfer care back to St. Jude. We received spectacular care there during two of hardest months that we could ever have imagined. We will travel there on 9/12 for scans on 9/13. That's Friday the 13th, but we don't believe in superstition.
Scanxiety is a real thing. It is impossible to describe the way the anxiety escalates as a scan approaches. After our experience in May, the semblance of "peace" that one might experience during the time between scans was significantly reduced forever. On Mother's Day, I reflected a lot about what it means to be a parent. When a person becomes a parent, they often don't realize what that could mean. I will admit I didn't. The next 13 days will be stressful, but we will lean on how great he looks, how high his energy is, and how much he loves kindergarten. We will focus on being parents that prioritize a fulfilling life that ensures Charlotte and Alexander understand what it means to give back to the world.
Keep us top of mind now and for all of September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
