Every month, CaringBridge recognizes a caregiver or family that brings to life our mission to amplify love, hope and compassion in the world.
CaringBridge was happy and proud to welcome our September Family of the Month recently when they visited our Minnesota headquarters. Rhonda Z., her husband and eldest daughter spoke to the staff about her breast cancer journey, her recovery and how she is making an impact within her community.
Rhonda was diagnosed about six years ago and staged her recovery over the next year, supported love of her family and friends, many of whom stayed connected on her CaringBridge Site. “I am amazed at how many lives are touched by this site,” she says. “I see it as the old fashioned ripple effect. When I update my journal, the message goes out as an email or text to so many people that I have no idea how far my words may reach in the world.”
Supporting it Forward
With her cancer in remission, Rhonda wanted to help those who were experiencing a similar journey. So with another friend and survivor, they started the Pink Prayer Warriors. The group’s aim is to reach out to individuals who are on a cancer health journey to make good on the CaringBridge Mission: amplifying the love, hope and compassion they receive when they need it the most.
The Pink Prayer Warriors send “care packages” with items like candles, chocolates and information about resources, and they utilize CaringBridge to help everyone stay connected. “By spreading the word about how much my CaringBridge Site helped me connect with my loved ones, I been able to share what a great tool the site is.”
The Power of Connection
For Rhonda and her fellow Warriors, connection, support and community are important elements for anyone’s health journey. Whether it is a package, a card or a few simple words of love in a Guestbook comment, showing someone you are there for them through the good and the bad is a necessary part of healing. “I heard from people I have never met and shared their love and concern with me. I think ANY and EVERY guestbook entry I received was a wonderful experience.”
