A prayer chain is a list of people who agree to pray for a loved one during a troubling time. Prayer is among the most ancient of human practices, and to this day billions of people believe in its power.
Prayer transcends religions, denominations, sects and belief systems of all kinds. It is used in a multitude of ways: to seek comfort, make a request, ask for guidance, heal and restore, express sorrow, celebrate joy, give thanks. In this blog, learn how to start a prayer chain for healing. We hope this advice inspires you to connect with yourself and others during a challenging time.
What is a Prayer Chain?
At its most elemental level, with everything else stripped away, praying is simply talking to someone (importantly, someone who’s always happy to listen).
A prayer chain kicks it up several levels, because it is a group of individuals who’ve decided to pray together. This, theoretically, amplifies the power of prayer.
Praying as a group also fulfills another of our basic human needs: to connect, both with a power greater than ourselves, and with one another.

How to Start a Prayer Chain
Here are some prayer chain guidelines that will help you and others in your sphere have an effective prayer chain — one that’s ready to pray for any person, or any care, at any time.
1. Decide whom to include in your prayer chain
They should be dependable and willing to join in prayer, at a moment’s notice. These individuals can also expand the chain, even more, with like-minded people they know. Think about including your faith community, family, friends, neighbors and colleagues.
2. Consider creating an online prayer chain to communicate prayer requests
You used to be limited to phone calls and word of mouth. Now, you can create and join online prayer groups, which grants you the ability to connect them from wherever you are.
For example, you can post requests using social media or a health platform like CaringBridge. You could also build an email list or text chain that allows you to send prayer requests to everyone with one click.

3. Respect people’s privacy
Prayer requests may not always come with an explanation. A patient or caregiver may prefer privacy. A request can just be a top-line explanation, such as, “Please pray for a woman who’s moving into long-term care on Monday.” Or “Add Kathy to the prayer list.”
Being discreet is important, if that’s what your loved one wants.
4. Share information right away
If you get word that the situation of one of your prayer recipients has changed, communicate it to everyone on your prayer chain so they can adjust their prayers.

Our Lord is always in control. He is helping the doctors and nurses treat my 7 year old grandson, as he is coping with Ewings Sarcoma ( which also broke his femor). He has just gone thru his 5th chemo and is doing pretty well by the grace of God. I pray for all people in these circumstanses.. God knows who they are.. Thank-you all for your prayers.

I would like to start a prayer chain for my 92 year old mom. We received bad news that she has cancer tumors and I just want her to be pain free and to give us all strength during this very difficult time. How do I go about starting the chain?
Life has a way of throwing curve balls at us to keep us aware of our surroundings and realize we are blessed even when bad things happen to those around us that are close to our hearts and when illness knocks at our door the shock can be overwhelming as we ask why is this happening. What reason does this have to happen? Today as always I ask for prayers for my friend Mary. I am at a loss for words as each minute goes by and we wait for results of the tests she has been given for suspected cancer. My heart is heavy and sad for my friend. ???????????
So many fond memories. Sorry to hear of your health struggles. Finished my chemo and yesterday had surgery to remove the shrunken tumor and involved lymph nodes. Overnight stay and came home to our friends, Martha, Patty, Angela here to offer whatever help I might need. Other church family members have been transporting me back and forth to Dr. Shenkenberg for the treatments. Prayers from my church family and friends have gotten this far. Prayers from me and church members who were members when you and Jane & family were here at FUMC- Raymondville. Keep the faith and put up the good fight. Love you, Donna!!

I mistakenly wrote the wrong citation in my earlier comments; stating that, Hebrews 6:24, and 25 declare God prays for us. The citations are: Hebrews 7:24&25; and not hebrews 6:24&25!

I write as a can cer surviver; one who understands that the prayer we pray, God the Holy Spirit has prayed on our behalf before we pray it. Knowing that, is to pray in the Spirut. It is exiting to know that we have the mandate to pray to God for man: while knowing that Gods “ever liveth to make intercession for them (Hebrews 6:24,25). In the act of healing our bodies; He also heal our souls for all eternity.
Therefore; we pray, with and for others on their behalf: knowing our prayers are answered by the Lord.

I like to start a prayer for my mom, Margret Bohnel. She has stage 4 Pancreatic cancer, and also need a heart valve replacement. One has to get better to fix the other one. She is fighting the good fight, but needs prayers and a little luck.
My church reaches one another through e-mails and phone calls. We include church members, former church members, people who have moved away, and other churches as well..
Make sure to post positive updates when possible and also remind people who do the praying that they are doing important work, work that can change lives.

CARINGBRIDGE was truly a God-send when our grandson and granddaughter were hit broadside in 2014. Prayers poured in from all across the country for Erik as he fought for his life during six weeks in the ICU. THE COMFORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT MEANT MORE TO OUR SON AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW THAT I CAN SAY HERE. Grieving our granddaughter while round-the-clock vigil for our grandson was made tolerable with all the prayer support. Gods is good. We knew our granddaughter Dana was safe at home in heaven. We rejoiced with each improvement for our grandson all the way thru months of rehab. I cannot say enough as to our gratitude for CARINGBRIDGE and all the wonderful people who faithfully encouraged us all. Now over three years later we each are still slowly returning to normal daily life, but much more sensitive to the needs of other hurting people and families. NEVER, never ever underestimate the power of prayer. God is always listening and always willing to reveal His presence, His love, His healing and His comfort. f
October 22 2015, my 16 year old son was involved in a horrible accident that nearly took his life. On Dylan’s second day in the ICU we prepared lay right a with the hospital catholic priest. That night Dylan had to go into emergency surgery to have the front part of his skull removed. He was then placed into induced acoma. The doctors prepared us for what could be and how to prepare.
One day during those first few days. My cousin came to visit Dylan in the hospital. She was telling me that she took her daughter skating this morning and went and sat next to another skating mom that she normally doesn’t talk to. They talked about he day and what they had planned. My cousin told her she had to go visit family at the hospital. She said “oh no, what happened” my cousin told her and just then the lady got a text message that said “pray for Dylan”. As soon as this happened she told me and I felt a sense of release. He spent 21 days in the ICU with a severe brain injury. It was the power of prayer that helped us through. People I didn’t even know where praying for my son Dylan.
