Sunday while returning to Bangkok Zakh’s esophagus burst. Luckily he was in Tokyo. He was taken to a hospital there & went thru 6+ hours of surgery and is currently in ICU. His sister & brother-in-law were notified Monday @9am & were on a plane by noon. They arrived in Tokyo around 430am EST & were able to see him. We were able to expedite a passport for his mom and she left Wednesday. He is expected to be in the hospital for at least 2 weeks and then has a very long recovery. Assuming all goes well he will be able to fly home once released. In the meantime you can imagine the costs adding up for the family. Anyone that knows Zakh knows he will give the shirt off his back to anyone that needs it. So we are asking for you to give back to him. With the time difference communication with the family is sporadic at best so we will be setting up a Caring Bridge. The biggest concern right now is infection. I spoke with his sister this eve and she knows he is getting better because he is flirting with the pretty nurses...they were hoping to remove the tube down his throat today - I haven't heard if they were able to do that. If they can do that he will be able to communicate much more - which we all know is driving him crazy...and of course it will make it easier for his naturally lovable personality to shine and he can really flirt...! He can only have visitors for a few minutes at a time 3 times a day with at least 90 min in between each visit.
