Zack Mayo A Journey to Healing

Hello, my name is Kim Niska . Kathy (Zack's Mom) is one of my dearest and best friends.  I have created this Caring Bridge page so that Family and Friends can keep updated on the condition and status of recovery for Zack. Kathy and Donnie are trying their best to keep everyone updated, but the most important task at hand is to take care of Zack. This page will allow everyone to see updates on Zack and allow you all to show your love and support for him and his family. Let's shower this family with Prayers, Love and Support.

On Friday April 14th, Zack was involved in a UTV(Utility Vehicle) accident. 


Zack and his friends were working on a Farm to earn extra money. It was the end of their shift and time to go to Lacrosse practice. Zack and a friend were heading back to their cars on a UTV. Zack slipped off of the UTV while it was driving. When he slipped he fell to the ground (which was a gravel pit) and hit his head and then was run over by the UTV.


Zack has sustained significant injuries due to this accident. He had several tests completed on Saturday. The test results showed a fractured scull right where his head and neck come together, 3 bleeds on his brain (they are small), broken ribs, bruised lungs, a small cut on his Liver and a broken pelvis.  The pelvis will need pins and screws along with therapy to help it heal.  On top of all of the above, it was also discovered that he has a brain injury.  Due to this particular injury he will be experiencing confusion, will not have the ability to concentrate and will need therapy to correct this.


The Doctors have said that he can overcome all of these injuries, but it is going to take quite a bit.  He is going to need all of our love, strength and support to help him and his parents with this road ahead.


I would just like to add a note to Kathy and Donnie.  Guys, I know you both are AMAZING parents and Zack is so lucky to have you. With you both (and your amazing extended family) Zack will surely overcome all of the obstacles ahead.


***Thank you to all of the Friends and Family that have supported them thus far.  I personally am touched beyond measure seeing the incredible outpour of love he has been receiving.  His Friends are so supportive and I believe the support he receives from them will also help his recovery move along more quickly!!  You BOYS (and girls) ROCK!!!!!
