Xander started getting sick in April at 5 months old. After recurrent admissions for pneumonias, he was diagnosed with Hyper IgM Syndrome, a genetic immunodeficiency in which his body cannot develop immune memory to infections. He has been admitted to the PICU since May 23rd requiring ventilatory support (although no breathing tube this time). He is being transferred to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (Emory) on Monday, June 11th for evaluation for hematopoietic stem cell transplant.
Nick and Emily have both missed a lot of work and have been living at the hospital for over 6 weeks. His wonderful work family has set up a GoFundMe (
https://www.gofundme.com/alexmensonmedicalfunds) page for donations.
We have very few direct family members who will be eligible donors. Only 1 in 430 people who register will go on to donate, and so to increase the likelihood of finding the best match we ask that as many people register as possible! There is a quick medical survey to see if you qualify, and the testing kit (cheek swab) is free. Read more and register here:
