Reid Evans Wings Like Eagles

First post: Jan 29, 2017 Latest post: Nov 9, 2023
On December 29th 2016, Reid underwent an exploratory endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure in order to evaluate elevated liver panels and prior MRI imaging suggestive of liver abnormalities. During the ERCP, a liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) was diagnosed.

After the ERCP, Reid experienced the rare complication of Severe Acute Pancreatitis, which threatened his life and placed him in critical condition for several days.  His recovery required a lengthy hospital stay afterward, which was further complicated by a secondary bloodstream infection.

Reid has recovered from severe complications. He is alive and with us today because many prayers were answered on his behalf, and because he is a fighter. However, Reid's journey isn't over. Our family is learning to embrace a new normal.

PSC is a degenerative condition of the bile ducts that has few treatments, and only one cure: a liver transplant. This condition is progressive, and will eventually lead to liver failure. Available treatments include repetitive ERCP procedures in which bile ducts are enlarged or stented, to extend the life of the liver. In Reid's case, future ERCP procedures will need to be navigated with precision and care.

Reid's medical team has determined that the PSC progression is significant, and his liver is severely diseased.

Reid is a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. He is bravely walking into this diagnosis strong, calm, and determined. He trusts the one sovereign God who holds him in His mighty hands. Whatever the Lord's plans may be for Reid as he journeys through this illness, he knows that his eternal life is secure. This is his greatest comfort.

We ask that you stay with us on Reid's journey into PSC. We ask that you pray with us, and believe that the Lord will restore Reid's body in His good time. We ask that you watch with anticipation at the wonderful ways in which the Lord will continue to reveal Himself - to Reid, to our family, and to those we know and love - through this process. We have great hope in many things yet unseen. We place all of our trust in the Lord, because we know His love for Reid is unfathomable, and that His plans are always good.

"But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength.
They will soar
high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will
walk and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31
