As most of you know, last fall Mom sold her house in Dryden and moved to an apartment in Lake Orion. She grew to love her apartment and the community at Independence Village and, with my sister Renee's help, was comfortably settling in.
Using a wheelchair most of the time, Mom was struggling the past few months with debilitating arthritis-associated pain. She and my sister were working with her doctor to find the ever illusive medication regimen to help manage it.
Mom was experiencing some growing mobility issues. Three weeks or so ago, Mom had some sort of heart episode and my sister facilitated her being transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Pontiac. Her health issues limited the number of the tests they could perform to confirm a diagnosis beyond a suspected heart condition. She stabilized while in the hospital and was transferred for rehabilitation to Lake Orion Nursing and Rehabilitation Center a couple of weeks ago.
Renee visited every day -- overseeing mom's needs -- and kept us posted on her progress. My sister, Karen, and I traveled to Michigan for Mother's Day and watched Mom grow stronger each day both physically and in spirit.
Mom remains at Lake Orion; this Caring Bridge site will help us stay in touch with family and friends. Most importantly, we hope it rallies people around Mom as she recovers.
