Will Sawyer Will Sawyer's Heart

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.

On Friday, July 8, at 7:30am, our 5 year old son, Will, is going to have open heart surgery to repair two ASD (atrial septal defects) that have been causing half of his heart to enlarge. The surgery will take a couple hours, and he will stay at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin for 5 days of recover. The total recovery time after he is home is around 6 weeks.

Will has a good understanding of what is going on and why, and he has been very positive and brave. We see it as a picture of God's protection and grace that his pediatrician even heard the slight murmur when he was 18 months old, which allowed them to find the problem and make a plan to fix it before it caused any issues. It is also a testament to God's grace that we live in Milwaukee, as Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has one of the bed pediatric heart centers in the country.

Will's parents (Josh and Anna), little brother (Graham-almost 3), and our families greatly appreciate your prayers and support. I will post updates each day while in the hospital, and periodically after that during his recovery. A few have asked about helping provide meals, which we also appreciate. You can see on the "planner" tab here on caringbridge with more info about how to do that and when it would be helpful.
