Wendy's journey started early September 2021. She had just finished a week visiting her kids, watching grand children, and had golfed for the weekend with friends, shooting her best game. Her breathing was difficult so her friends encouraged her to go into the Doctor. She went in and scans determined she had Extensive Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer. This meant she had lung cancer that had metastasized to her brain. She had several tumors in her lungs and brain; therefore,  chemotherapy was started immediately in mid-September. She went through 4 extensive rounds of chemotherapy. This treatment was completed just before the Holidays in 2021, so she was able to travel and spend the holidays with her children.

January 2022, scans showed all of her tumors had shrunk and she was cleared for radiation treatment on her lungs; as well as stereotactic (focal) radiation on the 4 tumors in her brain.  She continued on immunotherapy and also received her stereotactic brain radiation in February. She completed 10 rounds of Radiation on her lungs and brain mid-February 2022,  and subsequently was able to head to the beach to enjoy some much needed sun.

April 2022 check-in scans showed significant growth of tumors in her brain despite treatment and previous radiation. The decision was made to complete 10 rounds of whole brain radiation at this point. Upon completion of the whole brain radiation, the Dr's tried a new immunotherapy drug to try and slow the cancer in Wendy's body.

June 2022 check-in scans showed progression and unfortunately the cancer had moved to her lymph nodes, but the Dr's gave her one more chemo pill option to try. That treatment was started in July 2022.

Mid-August 2022 symptoms were increasing, and the decision was made to review the scans of her brain - which showed significant cancer progression. It has been determined that no further treatment options are available, and Wendy made the decision to start Hospice care at her home surrounded by family and friends.
