Laura Opsahl-Ong We Love Laura

Early morning Saturday March 10, Laura and three friends were driving back to William and Mary from spring break in Florida. They had turned off 95 and were on Route 5 when a dear in the road precipitated their car to crash into a tree at high speed. Despite being in the back seat wearing a seat belt Laura suffered severe trauma and was taken to the local hospital for treatment and then rushed to Richmond VCU Medical Center.  She was operated on early Saturday morning.  They removed her spleen and fixed a perforation in her stomach.  She suffered a number of internal damages including aorta dissection, damage to T7 and  C7 areas of her spine, some damage to carotid arteries, and 11 broken ribs. As of March 18 she is still in the Intensive  Care Unit under close scrutiny. She has very strong support from her family, relatives and friends. 

If you would like to show your support for Laura, we recommend comments posted to this site, cards sent to the hospital (see address below), or contributions to Doorways (non-profit hotel where her parents are staying), or contributions to a charity that you feel Laura would support are all great ways to show your support. Flowers, plants, or balloons are not as optimal, as they don't allow them in the ICU. Thanks for joining the group to help support a speedy and complete recovery for Laura.
