Sikhumbuzo Vundla is COO of the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti, living and working in Port-au-Prince. He and his wife, Hawa, have three young children. On April 25, an attempted robber broke into their home and violently attacked the family with a corrosive liquid. Vundla and one child were burned slightly, but Hawa suffered serious injury to her face and body. Treatment options are limited in Haiti, and made more complicated by the lack of medical insurance. A treatment plan is being developed, as are arrangements to transport Hawa to the US for ongoing care. All updates will be posted on this CaringBridge site.
In addition, friends of Vundla have set up a GoFundMe site for the family. Combined with additional support coming from The Episcopal Church and other partners, the hope is to provide enough support to alleviate any financial concerns the family has.
