Vicki Anderson

Vicki Anderson was born on July 3rd of 1957 to Jim and Ellen Wischropp.  She grew up in Lyndon, Kansas with two sisters and one brother.  She went to college at Kansas State University where she met her husband, Dick Anderson.  Together, they lovingly raised three children, Mark, Kirk, and Alex Anderson.

In August of 2018, Vicki had a routine eye exam where the doctor noticed a small spot on the back of her eye and recommended that she get it checked out by a specialist.  She was quickly diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma, a rare type of cancer.  She endured surgery for local placement of radiation on the tumor that was growing in her eye.  She took it like a champion and knitted three blankets for her children while recovering.

In January of 2020, we learned that cancer had spread to her liver.  Vicki quickly started radiation and immunotherapy in hopes of shrinking or killing cancer in the liver.

After 10 months of treatment, Vicki began having pain in her arm.  After several weeks it was discovered that cancer had spread to her arm and had broken her humerus.  It was decided that she would undergo surgery for the bone break.  The surgery used plates and screws to put the bone together and as soon as Vicki was in recovery from the surgery, she felt a sigh of relief. 

While in the hospital for her arm, the doctors ran tests on her liver.  Her arm pain was gone, however, she was experiencing fatigue and nausea. They found that her bilirubin count was very high and performed a liver biopsy.  They discovered that while the liver tumors hadn't grown,  cancer had spread to all parts of the liver internally.

Vicki made the decision to stop further cancer treatments and return home to enjoy time with her family and loved ones.

Vicki is now back at home and in-home hospice care has been arranged.
