Welcome to Vern's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends all over the country updated in one place. We appreciate your support, your prayers and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Wednesday, November 29, 2017, Vern passed out while driving in Altadena, California. He was on a downhill slope so he gained speed until clipping and side-swiping a few cars waiting at a red light. He then slammed into the back corner of a paneled truck. The impact drove the roof, windshield into his face and the steering wheel into his chest. He was admitted to Huntington Memorial Hospital's Trauma unit for stabilization, then moved to the Critical Care Unit.
He had multiple facial fractures, a large facial laceration, hemorrhage behind his left eye, 8 broken ribs and lung bruising. He also has a few small bleeds in his brain. Surprisingly, he has not been in a lot of pain. His eyes were swollen shut, initially. The Ophthalmologist was concerned about his left eye but found it to be intact and showing signs of ability to see light and to move. His eyes are already improving.
HIs family has been supporting him and remaining up to date on his care. Rather than emailing, texting and calling everyone who wants to know how he is doing, we thought this would be a better way to keep everyone informed and decrease the time we need to spend on our phones.
