First, let me say thank you so much to my awesome wife Lori and my amazing family and network of friends. I feel so very loved and supported during this time, and I am very grateful . I went for a routine mammogram in January and got a call back for a second look. After the second mammogram and ultrasound they scheduled a biopsy and that's when I got scared. After the double biopsy I was hoping it would be clear but I knew there was something going on, and I got the call a week later. It has been a shock but also an eye opener. I am very grateful to have the best medical team and care here in New Haven, and I am changing my diet for the long haul.  I thought about reconstruction, but when I heard from the surgeon that there is a 15-30% chance of occurrence in remaining breast, it was a no brainer for me to decide on a double mastectomy, with the full support of my wife and kids. That also solved the problem of reconstruction because I will be balanced and flat, and won't have to go through any extra discomfort. I am so glad I got to go scuba diving in Bonaire. 27 dives in two weeks! I am ready for this life change and I will keep you all posted. Thank you and I love you❤
