Becca Thorpe Updates on Becca Thorpe

First post: Apr 12, 2017 Latest post: May 31, 2018
Welcome to Becca's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

As many of you know, Becca suffered a serious seizure on Monday, March 27th after getting home from work. She was rushed to Melrose-Wakefield hospital where they did a CT scan and saw a large mass in her brain. She was transferred to Tufts Medical Center in Boston where they did an MRI and confirmed there was a large tumor in the right frontal lobe. On Friday, March 31st, she underwent brain surgery where Dr. Wu at Tufts Medical removed the tumor. The surgery went as well as possible and they were able to remove nearly all of the tumor. Becca was sent home on Monday, April 3rd and has been recovering comfortably at home since then.

Unfortunately, the biopsy of the tumor did show that it was cancerous. The doctors have been able to confirm that it is a a grade 3 glioma, but they are still waiting test results to determine whether it is a astrocytoma glioma or an oligodendroglioma. The type of glioma will determine treatment plans. If we haven't been responding to texts/emails/messages about treatment, we are not trying to be rude, we simply don't know at this point since we are still waiting on a lot of test results from our team of doctors.

In the meantime, thanks to  Becca's cousin Claire, she has an appointment to get a 2nd opinion at Mass General which has one of the top brain cancer treatment centers in the world. Becca also has a separate appointment at Dana Farber Cancer Institute to meet with the head of their neuro-oncology department. Once we meet with these two doctors/teams, we should hopefully be able to decide where Becca will receive treatment and know more about the treatment plan.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out, the support is very much appreciated and we plan to keep this page as updated as possible so that everyone can stay up to date with the latest news. :)
