Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting Tyler’s page. Just as a short recap, Tyler was playing in a Pickleball Tournament with his brother Matt in early September. They got pasted horribly and Tyler thought he hurt his hip. After a week of his hip/ groin area hurting he went to the ER. Because Tyler had a previously ruptured appendix one year ago the ER Doc decided to do a CT scan. This new scan revealed a mass in his pelvis . This was biopsied and found to be a solid cancerous growth of leukemia cells. Acute Myelogenous Sarcoma is both rare and very dangerous. While we were researching where best to get him treated, his condition worsened rapidly. We found the experts we needed here at MDAnderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, Texas. This amazing Cancer only Hospital in Houston urgently accepted his difficult case and we came here on September 30th. Immediately we felt the uniqueness of this very special place. Everyone here has been kind, compassionate and helpful. His Cancer specialist is Dr. Naval Davar. He has set forth an aggressive treatment plan that includes at least 2 rigorous cycles of Triple Agent Chemotherapy , and a very special oral drug that has been recently approved for AML. It’s called Venatoclax. Once we get him into remission, Tyler will then need a Stem Cell Transplant to totally replace his bone marrow. We have found a local apartment 2 blocks from his hospital and clinics. We are now discharged after his first round of chemotherapy and we are truly in awe of his response so far. He went from unable to walk or sleep because of hip bone pain, to today, he walked those two blocks for his appointment . God is gracious. We are now watching that everything in his life be amazingly clean and sterile. Nurse Lynnsey is administering the meds and doing his PICC line care as his local RN expert. His strength is a huge asset. I continue to support them both, in anyway I can. Lastly, all of us in the Virden family would like to express humbly our deep appreciation for the immense outpouring of support for this family and in particular Tyler’s fight to beat his Cancer. Know that this will be a long battle, it will have good days, joyous days and some rough days. We will take them one day at a time. Tyler’s spirits are sky high from the continual love afforded him by all of you. This positive attitude is so critical to win the fight. I will continue to up date you periodically with progress . We will also be fed by you all as you share unselfishly share your Prayers and inspiration with Tyler.
