Welcome to our CaringBridge website. As many of you already know, Travis was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas a few weeks ago. We met with the surgeon today (4/5). He has a great reputation among physicians in the Portland area and we both liked him & his attitude/sense of humor very much. Travis will have surgery 4/18 at 1pm. The procedure is very extensive because of the proximity of the pancreas to the stomach, liver and small bowel. It's called a Whipple procedure if you're interested in the science and details like we are! The risk of complications is high, but this is the best route forward for this type of cancer. No chemo or radiation are required, which is great news. Travis will likely be in the hospital for about a week following surgery and then home recovering for 3 -5 weeks before going back to work.
Please feel free to post questions, thoughts, notes, anything really! I'm hoping to use this site for coordinating support following surgery, especially when I have to be at work. Please share this site with loved ones we may have overlooked in all this craziness. Much love from us both to you!
We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
