Dad (as written by Tonya) was recently diagnosed with Stage Four Pancreatic Cancer that has spread to his liver. He will begin chemotherapy treatments this Thursday April 13 in an effort to shrink the tumor and ease the pressure on his nerves. He has been in a great deal of pain and barely able to eat (at times not able to eat at all) since the beginning of the year, when he landed in the ER on the morning of New Years Day with severe pain in his chest (though his first symptoms began on Labor Day 2016). We were relieved he was not having another heart attack, but did not know at the time where this was leading. At the time of his diagnosis Dad had already been sick for seven months and been incorrectly diagnosed five times, and we are heartbroken at the news but also relieved to finally know what he is dealing with.
Anyone who knows Dad knows he is the eternal optimist. His diagnosis is not a hopeful one, but Dad is determined to make the best of what he is given and remains upbeat in the midst of a trial that would devastate most people. We are praying for a miracle, which our God is able to do, and we rest in the comfort that God has ordered the number of Dad's days, as He has for each one of us, long before he was born. No mistaken diagnosis or delay in treatment can alter the will of our loving and all-powerful heavenly Father. Dad will live out the exact number of days ordained for him by God and we will delight in every opportunity to spend together as a family during the gift of those days.
In the months that he has been ill, Dad has been either working very little or unable to work at all, and at this point we do not know how soon, if at all, he will be able to return to work. In addition to their regular living expenses, bills have been coming in. We have set up a Go Fund Me page for anyone who would like to help, which can be found here -
