Tom suffered a hemorrhagic stroke sometime on Wednesday February 26, 2020. Three surgeries have been performed. The first one that same evening to evacuate the resulting blood clot, and a second the next day on February 27th to perform a decompressive craniectomy where the surgeon removes a portion of the skull to allow room for the brain to swell in order to reduce intracranial pressure (ICP). After 14 days in ICU at Dell Seton, Tom was moved to Texas NeuroRehab in south Austin to begin recovery. A third surgery was performed on June 2nd to replace the bone flap removed during the craniectomy.  Tom returned to the rehab center until his release on August 28th.
