Welcome to Tom Russo’s CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Thank you for
visiting.

For those of you who have not yet heard, Tom is very sick. He was hospitalized at Evanston Hospital on June 24, 2016, following a severe accident. About 3 weeks later, Tom was discharged from the hospital and placed in a skilled nursing facility where we expected his condition to improve enough for him to undergo a required hip surgery. Unfortunately, his condition declined and Tom was readmitted to the hospital for emergency dialysis on Monday, August 8th. Since then, he has been receiving dialysis for his failed kidneys but is still in a confused state, is barely speaking and eating, and is in liver failure.

On August 8th, after 45 days in the hospital, the doctors have informed my family and Tom's parents that Tom’s situation is terminal. We are transitioning Tom to hospice, where his life expectancy is only days to a week.

The kids (Kelly, Chris, and Mark), Tom's parents (Marilyn and Tom) and brother (Mike), and I are distraught and heartbroken. We are doing everything we can to support the kids as we deal with this tragic situation. Kelly just flew back to school (in Boulder) this week and will be coming home soon to say good-bye. We are sending him off with peace, love, and light.

Kelly and I will do our best to keep this site updated. I appreciate all of your prayers, love, support and good wishes, as I'm sure Tom does.

Sincerely,
Sabine
