Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
After spending a couple of days in the hospital for what we thought was pneumonia, Tom tested positive for cancer on October 11, 2017.  They had drained 1.5 liters of fluid from the pleural space in his chest.  The hospital tested the fluid and it tested positive for cancer cells.  The days following that discovery have been filled with CT scans, blood work, chest x-rays, a PET scan and an MRI of his brain, along with another 1.5 liters of fluid being drained from his chest.  What we know now is that he has stage III b lung cancer.  There is a mass in the upper portion of his right lung.  They also found cancer in a hilar lymph node and there are many tiny cancer cells in the fluid they drain from the pleural space in his chest.  Due to the cancer found in the fluid, they will not be operating on the mass in the lung or the lymph node.  The plan for now is to try and manage the cancer with chemotherapy.  We are praising God that the cancer has not metastasized to anywhere else in his body and are deeply grateful for the love and support of family and dear friends.
