Tom Mohr

The Diagnosis

Pancreatic Cancer - Adencarcinoma.  A malignant tumor that forms in the pancreas ducts. The surgery is known as the "Whipple" procedure that essentially removes the head of the pancreas and reconnects the necessary digestive organs to the small intestine.  


Tom Mohr's Career

Tom has devoted his life to educating the youth of San Mateo County and preparing them for a successful future. As both a secondary and post-secondary leader, he has educated students throughout San Mateo County. Tom began his illustrious fifty-year career in education as a high school chemistry and math teacher. He later served as principal of three high schools in the north county before becoming Superintendent of the San Mateo Union High School District. Shortly after retirement from the high school district, Tom became President of Cañada College and later was elected to the San Mateo County Community College District Board of Trustees where he currently serves as Vice President. Tom is also a board member of several educational and philanthropic foundations.

Tom’s vision and leadership has always focused on new and creative ways to advance the interests of students. For instance, he was instrumental in the success of the University Center at Cañada College which enables students to earn Baccalaureate Degrees through San Francisco State University and CSU East Bay. During his tenure as President, he made great strides in integrating the college effectively into the life of the communities that it serves, resulting in a solid reputation for personalized teaching and learning, as well as an effective means of delivering student support services.
