It's been said that if you live long enough, you will get some form of Cancer. Our family has found this to be true as our father, Tom Mertes, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Stage 1 Diffuse Large B cell Lymphoma, Leg type in February 2020.
Just shy of his 94th birthday (4/2), he's hoping to make it to 95. Treatment, in the form of radiation (on his left leg) and immunotherapy, began on 3/20/20 and will hopefully slow down the disease progression and buy him some time, while maintaining comfort and quality of life as he stays in his apartment in Overland Park Place. When the time comes, Hospice will be involved.
