Welcome to our Caring Bridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.
We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Our dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma last fall. This is a cancer that starts in the bone marrow’s plasma cells. The plasma cells are a type of white blood cell in the bone marrow. With this condition, a group of plasma cells become cancerous and they multiply. This disease can damage the bones, immune system, and kidneys if not treated.
He has been enduring chemo treatments since we learned of his diagnosis. Our goal with the chemotherapy was to reduce the amount of cancer cells so that he would qualify for a stem cell transplant. If successful, a stem cell transplant could give him years in remission. We are very hopeful!
Our dad has been an outpatient at Mayo Clinic in Rochester since the beginning of March. He is staying at the transplant house (Gift of Life).http://gift-of-life.org/
The stem cell transplant is scheduled for Thursday, April 13th.
Post transplant, he will remain at the Gift of Life Transplant house until he is well enough to return home. (approx 3 weeks).
If you would like to send a card and/or note to our dad, he would really enjoy receiving mail to help keep his spirits up. He is unable to accept any live plants/flowers at the transplant house and/or the hospital during this time.
