We are at the start of what is likely a long journey. Tom was diagnosed with Early/Younger Onset Alzheimer's in November, 2019. The progression of this disease is hard to predict in terms of rate and impacts. The kind of help we need will change.
Tom is officially retired and staying busy working out at the JCC daily, attending lectures and museum events with friends, going to the movies and helping out around the house. Tom's driving is modified to familiar places close to home.
Every conversation I have and everything I read advises that the primary Caregiver (me) also figures out how to stay mentally, emotionally and physically healthy. I am not there yet but trying.
Our family is having ups and downs (sometimes extreme swings) as we adjust. This is expected. Our foundation is love and that will help us live our best lives and persist.
